Canvas Care Instructions and Guarantee
Have you received a canvas print from Spitting Images and want to know how to take care of it? We’ve put together this article to give you the information you need to know.

Our canvas prints are manufactured using natural materials. The canvas is a Poly Cotton Blend or 100% cotton fabric and our stretcher bars are made from kiln dried Canadian pine. Both canvas and frame are susceptible to high heat and humidity changes. These extreme environments can alter the shape of the frame and the tension of the stretched canvas.

Follow these guidelines to keep your print tight, straight and looking it’s best:

• Avoid hanging in areas of prolonged direct sunlight.
• Avoid significant changes or extremes of temperature and humidity.
• Handle your print as if you were handling an original painting on canvas.
• Don’t stack items on top of the print. This can stretch the canvas and make it loose.
• Canvases can be cleaned with a damp cloth.

not tight as a drum?

With seasonal environmental changes, some slight loosening of the canvas can be expected. If the canvas shows signs of loosening, lightly spray the back of the print with clean or distilled water. As it dries, the canvas will tighten. Alternatively, canvas tightening products can be purchased at local art supply stores.

our true colours

The combination of ink and finishing laminate we use result in printed colours that are expected to last a lifetime or longer. We stand behind the colours in your print staying as bright and vivid as the day you first hung it on your wall. As mentioned, avoid hanging the print in an area where there is an abundance of direct sunlight.

We colour calibrate our printer and monitors to all our canvas and finishing types so you can be sure of accurate colour reproduction. Uncalibrated monitors do not show colours, hues and brightness accurately. For the serious photographer, we always recommend having monitors calibrated.
