We would like to wish our family, friends and customers a safe and Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
The studio will be closed starting December 25, 2013 and will reopen with new hours on January 6, 2014. We may be in and out of the studio during the holidays, so if you need to come in or pick up an order, please contact us. We’ll still be responding to emails and will return phone messages as soon as we can.
Next year, Spitting Images Canvas Studio will be open from 10am – 4pm from Monday to Saturday.

Designed in house by Kevin Foster, the Gift Certificates were press printed 2 colours on NCR paper, leaving an exact duplicate of the original certificate on file at the studio. The letterhead is printed 4 colours on 70lb premium uncoated, recylcled offset paper. The envelope is printed in 2 colours, Pantone Black and Pantone 357.
Never one to stay with a logo for too long, Spitting Images is unveiling a new logo today!
This new design marks a significant change to our look. The new logo has a boutique feel to it. It evokes images of traditional print shops that have been serving their communities for hundreds of years. We wanted to honour our roots by bringing these elements into our visual identity.
Traditional printing techniques use 4 colours to reproduce a full colour image and are present on press sheets to measure the colour the press is laying down. Other things like crop marks and register marks are used to aid pressmen and the bindery in creating a finished piece. Our digital printing equipment has 12 colours, so using these elements in our new design allows us a large palette of colours to draw from.
There’s still elements of the original logo designs in this new version. The vase designed as an optical illusion known internally as the “Spittoon” is drawn from the face of our eldest daughter. There needed to be some elements that ties it to the previous design. Something that maintains consistency with the history of our company. The Spittoon has been consistent in the design from the first draft. We needed to ensure this graphic element remained and was prominent in the new design.
To compliment the new logo, we felt it necessary to rewrite our tagline as well. We wanted to say something about the photographs that people choose to print. These are special images in the lives of our customers. Fine Prints for Fine Photos gives these photos the recognition they deserve and is a nod to the many professional photographers that use our service.
The new logo and design will start rolling out across the company immediately. Being a small shop with a presence online and in retail, the transition will take some time. The first thing to be branded with the new design is a new product: gift certificates. Also, refreshed social media profile pictures have been posted to our Twitter and Facebook accounts with full account redesigns expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
The website and retail updates will be happening over the next few months and we expect to be fully sporting our new design in the new year.

For the second year in a row, Spitting Images is working with The Kawartha Promoter to bring you the Explore Bobcaygeon and Explore Fenelon Falls Photo Contest. This year is even better, with more categories, unlimited entries and more prizes!
All entries are eligible to have your photos published in the annual tourism publications which are published in partnership with the Bobcaygeon and Fenelon Falls Chamber of Commerce.
There will be one grand prize of a 20″ x 16″ stretched canvas print from Spitting Images. Winners of each category will also receive a $25 gift certificate from Spitting Images to be used online or in studio!
Fred Thornhill, James Goodliff and Kevin Foster will again be this years contest judges. They’ll each be looking for specific traits of the photos to determine the winners. Fred will be looking at the photographic skills of the photographer, James is looking for overall artistic merit and Kevin will focus on the technical image quality required for printing and large format reproductions.

Adobe has recently announced availability of a special photography-centric package of their Creative Cloud subscription service.
According to their website:
